Yeah,

I was starting to sour on the whole hip hop thing having not heard anything good lately, but seriously, sage francis is a lot of fun. Additionally, The Boards of CAnada are treating me just fine as well.

Yesterday after work, well during work, fillipe en vert, stopped by and we hit a movie and then zeno for a coffee and such. Anyway, Baxter is a real funny film; it's been a while since I've laughed so hard out loud.

I worked today, that was alright.

My second job is slowing down - I'm mulling some options, one of which is just taking some time off from second jobs.

I think the best thing about bob dylan's voice is that he sounds like he may break into laughter at any moment on any bridge, chorus or verse.

Disturbing,

So I stumbled on a site detailing "parasomnias" and yeah I'm like there, man. I've got nightmares, confusion arousals, sleep walking, sleep talking, and I think I've got sleep paralysis to a real limited degree (I can't wake up from dreams while I'm having them, but aware of the dream - most disturbing).

What parasomnia do you have?
brought to you by quizzwebmd

Anyway, I woke up at like four this morning after going to sleep at eleven pm and took like an hour to get back to sleep until like seven-thirty at which time I got my shit together, took a shower, and decided to stop by the birchwood and see filipe en vert, but after further examination it seems he had the morning off, but I did get to flirt with the cute dark haired server girl, so that was worth while. I'll have to stop by again when I can really check things out.

After that little jaunt, pastry (excelent cherry cardomon thing), I went to IKEa to look for a little table or something for my laptop, like a desk, but smaller. I found what I wanted, but they were out of stock and I'm not the ordering type, especially when it's something that I don't need and probably worn't really use.

Anyway, I got back home and chilled a little bit, took a nap and here I am.

Over,
Chromeeyes

post script: I hate and love shopping for spring jacket(I also did that on my way back from IKEa).

The World Isn't Quite Real Yet

So I just woke up from a four hour nap....my brain's kinda funny right now, real restless four hours I probably woke up half a dozen times during the course of it. I'm again at the urban bean blogging and there's a group of theater people doing an interview talking about objective theater and some such bullshit..........sigh

Anyway, I'm so foggy right now that when I walked into the shop they were playing the new Gorillas CD and I had to ask what cd they were playing - I love that disk. I should seriously check out if there's a sleep disorder match for me........brb

ani's superhero

Well, after much stumbling, I found out that the reason I couldn't network with my room-mate's computer was because I had not one, but two software firewalls running on my computer I got ahold of his extensive collection, which includes ani difranco's dilate and the song superhero, damn......that shit brings me back to monica, mosh pits, a summer in an apartment with three of my best friends and one random girl ann who kicked ass and bought us beer which we drank on the tar roof outside musebomb's window - the window that brought hot air and garbage truck sounds in at six am, a tequila bottle filled with listerine and a pint jar filled and subsequently emptied into the wakogeko's gullet of tequila, talking about chickbugs and their thirst for grape soda with the poor, poor cashier at that grocery on mifflin street, really big pants that could fit one of us in each let, a mattress in a room with a fire-escape smoking lounge, running along with my biking friends down to picnic point and back again at nine pm and then chaining three cigarettes upon returning home, cross-country skiing lessons in an eighty degree living room...........Wow that shit's flashing....and back

Today was a good day, I'm taking on a bit of extra responsibility at my day job; the chef is finally taking some much, much needed hours off of his schedule and I'll get to run solo for a good bit of the breakfast/lunch/brunch show and even get some help when it's needed, technically, we're all on the level there, but it's like I said to the sucker who questioned my authority a week and a half ago, "you can follow my lead or you can do what you're doing and deal with the consequences later"....or some such shit. I'm having a good time, for the time being, making up my own fun food lunch specials and plodding through the less than scintillating breakfast/lunch/brunch stuff - I figure, as I have for some time that work is work, it's not what the work is that matters, it's how you do it....yeah, chromeeyes, wax fucking poetic some more and you'll have issues........

Anyway, I'm coffee shop blogging right now, which is cool and I'm a little sad to see that there aren't any shows that are catching my fancy the next couple of days, but I've been off from my second job and will be until saturday all week and it feels good to drink a glass of wine after work, shoot some breeze with my co-workers, grab some sushi (did that tonight) from the grocery store and be up to my own devices for the remainder of the evening.

I hope I don't get sick off that grocery store sushi. I've done it before and haven't, but I always hope the same thing. They're some bloody moron definition of insanity that goes as follows: Insanity is repeating the same function expecting different results.

Hurrican aftermath sensitivity warning,

Alright, I watched the premier of the second season of Lost tonight although I’d never seen the first season. Notable - the tv station decided that warning me of the impending rain was more important than letting me watch Lost in a timely manner, so I watched and surfed through like fourty-five minutes of it’s raining, so if you don’t want to get wet go inside “public service” coverage of the “storm” until which time the tv station decided to rebroadcast the premier of lost on an affiliate station. The coverage was god-awful, at one point, having nothing better to discuss an anchor was talking about how busy the insurance adjusters were going to be tomorrow……..really bad stuff. Anyway, I think I may keep up with Lost for a while while it’s convenient or not but it was an alright show for a slow night. Anyway, afterwards there is this aliens show that was premiering and there was some shitty warning regarding the depiction of hurrican aftermath and those sensitive to such things should be advised..............wow.

My allergies were terrible tonight and I’m not sure, but everyone around me seems to be sick, from my boss to the barista who’s got some serious undergarment disfunction ;). Yeah, I’m beaning it again ( I’m not sure how I like the sound of that, but it might grow on me - I’m not sure I’m cool necessarily with folks being able to google where I hang out and find me, but beaning is at the Urban Bean, so that’s that forever in google land I guess.)

Anyway, work was cool today, I found out that the rest of the kitchen staff is getting their hours cut, but the chef told the general manager that under no circumstances would he cut my hours. My call is that that cuts two ways: 1) the chef knows that the hours that I put in are worth more than my wage and he knows he’s getting his money’s worth and 2) he knows that if he cuts my hours I’ll just go get another job cooking because of item one. I feel bad for the rest of the staff though, I mean, money’s ok in the chrome eyes world, not overly abundant, but it’s ok, I work two jobs and have like 75% more income than they do, so a hundred bucks a week might not suck too bad for me, but for them it really sucks and that sucks, but I guess they could get another job too so that’s that.

OH, SHIT YEAH. My Claritin just kicked in - BADASS!

Offshoots

I saw a good friend off today on his way to Portland, Oregon today. Kinda sad, funny too, how after living with and sharing personal battles for the past couple of years he'll be a day and night's drive away now. Hopefully, we'll say in touch better than I stay in touch generally.........

I had a whole day off today and really was just a homebody - did laundry, listened to music, wasted time. Someday I'll get motivated on my days off, but today wasn't the one for that.

My shoulder hurts like I cracked my collar bone when I reach toward my toes; I think I've got to start stretching my new-found muscles (new found from working 65-70 hours/week in a kitchen).

I've considered starting a running regiment lately, I'm gaining weight again, finally, which is a relief because for a while I could eat as much as I had time to and was losing weight (again I'm pretty sure it was an occupational hazard in july and august - see above). I think instead I'm going to buy a bicycle and find the city trails.

Work is slowing down I'm only working like four days a week at my second job, which is alright. I've got mixed emotions about that job now, but I think mostly I need to take a chill and let thme ride because it'll get better and it's not bad to start with.

There's this unfairly amazing red haired, clog wearing thing sitting across from me at the urban bean.

I've thought quite a lot about serenity in my life lately and I endeavor to reach the plateau I've seen before(ie I need to chill out so I can reflect and introspect and such (can you say introspect?).

I got an airplane ticket for my birthday and I need to figure out what to do with it. I'm thinking one of two west coasts.......we'll see where that goes.

Sometimes I feel watched.

I was wicked congested this morning, shit for like a week, anyway I took the little red crack pills and that did the trick, but after the first set wore off I felt real shitty so I took another set - I only hope it won't keep me up the better part of the night.

Who thinks it's a good idea to make my sitemeter public? OK bad idea 'cause then y'all will know how blooming lame this blog's become....oh wait, if you're reading this you already do know....hmmm............

I've decided I really like the new The Hold Steady, which for those of you not in the know is the new Lifter Puller. I've decided I decidedly do not care for the new Aqualung.

Is there a new Old 97s disk out yet?.......I'll check...........yeah.............Alive and Wired [LIVE]....I was hoping it'd be new new, but I think I'll go get it once this chai latte is in my gut....that and MIA...and maybe another white stripes disk.........unhealthy late obscession(sp?). Yeah, I'm going to cheapo and then home and then to......well I'm not sure where to then, but as I've intemated before hopefully to sleep before 2am (I slept so well last night, why can't I sleep when I've got to work then next day?).

Yeah that's about it,

A day of rest

Yeah, so today I've got the day off and tomorrow I'll have the day off. My working weekend turned out allright, but the end of it put me in a pretty foul mood. I worked both jobs (burl and barbette) friday and saturday, but saturday night the sous-chef at burl said he wouldn't be needing me on sunday night which was fine with me because well I'd be working from like 7am to 4pm on sunday anyway - it'd be cool to have an unexpected night off. Anyway, I got home from work sunday and the line cook who was supposed to be on at burl was a nocallnoshow and so the sous-chef gave me a call and asked me to come in. I was really pretty pissed at the bugger who didn't figure he should show up, but the sous' father had had a heart attack the day before, so I made the trip so he could have the night off. Regardless of that when I got to work I was pretty pissed and it was real slow so I rounded up the troop and set the to a cleaning regiment (confidential to fillipe - bottom altosham, eighth inch of congealed turkey a/o pork fat coating the bottom - eew!). The dishwasher took his fine time getting the dishes done and then avoided the kitchen by talking on the phone in the banquet kitchen and the line cook was like, "are you in charge of me?," and I was like,"no, I'm not in charge of you, but it's like this, you can choose to follow my lead or you can slack around - it's your choice. Anyway the two of us cleaned for a while, cooked for a while and then bashed knuckles(friendly) at the end of the night, so I left in a much better mood than when I started and as a result stopped by the SA on my way home and picked up a jumbo candy bar and gatorade care package for the night crew at barbette, who were appreciative on account of having been slammed just before I got there. Anyway, that was my sunday, so I got home hung out and watched Hildalgo with Vigo Mortensen, real quality stuff.

Lately I've been pretty into the arcade fire and the shins, mixed with a fair amount of "Get Behind me Satan" by the White stripes. I've fairly cooled a bit on atmosphere, but that's likely becase this dude at work I introduced to atmosphere doesn't listen to anything else...........side note: I'm watching the eagles and falcons right now and they had some bloody country and western song playing highlights of the first half - not happy.........anyway back to the music, now I know how musebomb jerry feels about the voodoo glow skulls now.

I've not been sleeping so well lately, but I'm getting over that sooner than later - slept in this morning until like eight, so that's nice and then I ate two Chipoltle burritos for lunch, that was good, but I'm getting hungry again, so I may make myself a little pasta, I've got some canned whole pear tomatos, pasta, kalamata olives, and some cream in the fridge, so I'll likely whip something up on that end, but I really want to eat like three brats, so I may head to the store and do that too, we'll see what transpires.

Yeah.

So a friend and I hit the Liffey Irish Pub with his sister last night. Pretty cool time, kinda just what I needed after a seemingly longish weekend. I've lately been working with a few of the cranky at work folks...not really sure where that comes from or how you go about that. The rest of the weekend was pretty fine really. Saturday I had some drinks (read too many) with some of my compadres from barbette and that was a good time all around; plenty of shop talk and those two hearted ales, some things will be forgiven in time....some day I'll learn, really. Not sure what I'm going to do with my day off today, but I'm sure I'll relax and then take a nap at some point...guess it doesn't matter...that's the best part about a day off, you get to make all your own rules, within your own means. I think I'm going to check out a bike shop to two today as well, I've been meaning to look at and potentially purchase one of these new-fangled contraptions and I guess I will someday soon. I'm thinking that with gas prices where they are any time on a bike will be better than time in a car, plus I'm looking for a way to exercise that doesn't give my shins the pains. Yeah so that's my tuesday the sixth update from the UBean.

I think I just bought an insurance policy

Just now I helped the thug types who live in my building jumpstart their full-sized dodge van. They were trying to use a lighter and cables with a short to get the van jumped and first I pulled out my maglight and then troubleshot their cables and substituted mine subsequently. Plus, I gave them a talking to about the dangers of batteries and hydrogen gas, hopefully they'll get a flashlight next time. I'm guessing that my car won't get broken into anytime soon. I worked both jobs today, the golf club thing was a sinch, except for well....a fair amount of disorganization that led to some uncharacteristic cussing on my part, but hey that's senioritice for yah....half the help at the club is on the way out and some of the college kids are slacking and there's a change in management to boot, so we'll see where that goes, they're not hiring a sous-chef until spring, so the story goes and I'm not sure I'd be interested at all anyway, but they should be interested
'cause I've got a feeling shit's gonna go real sour real quick.......well so it goes.

I'm going to check out my possible future employment - the birchwood cafe - tomorrow night and see what it's like, plus I've heard that both the staff and clientel are hot.....barbette hot?...we'll have to see.

Anyway that's about all I've got for tonight seeing as how I'm tired.

Tuesday, August 30, 2005

Yeah, so I'm working up a new template for my blog and it's here for public viewing. I'm not sure I like it at all, but It's taking me a while to customize it because I've been off the internets for quite some time and haven't been keeping up on my small small amount of html cut/paste skillz.

So, I ran around a little this afternoon took a nap made lunch and dinner, pretty much a normal lazy saturday, except that it's tuesday.

Anyway, I think I'm going to have a conversation about my new job prospects with the chef at my full time cooking job, hopefully, well really I haven't really figured out the right way to approach that one yet, but we'll see what he's got to say about it...kinda thinking it doesn't matter, but that's that.

Additionally, I think I'm getting motivation to see this state fair buisness, but I'm not sure when I'm going, maybe this weekend; the golf club buisness is slowing down and I'm only working there three days this week, so maybe something less than twenty hours, which is nice for a change, but I've got to get better at not getting bored with my free time, even today it seemed like too much to have a whole day off - probably just shell shock from not just hanging out for a day for a while without anything pressing to get done, I'm sure it's good for me somehow.

later y'all

Stuff, stuff and more stuff,

As I was virtually discussing with a_ron and cheffillipe last night in separate converasations I'm fairly certain I missed the bus twice in one week and two euphamistically separate buses (the euphamisism are the same the buses were different and yes sexy). So, all I've got to say about that is, stupid f-ing working at 7am saturday and sunday......shit maybe I'll catch a bus sooner than later, but I've got to get better at knowing when the bus is leaving 'cause both times it was a flat whif, shit I didn't even really see it coming on one occasion and on the other I really just should have been more assertive, shit I don't know maybe I didn't want to catch either bus anyway......regardless there'll be more buses and such, like the fish.

In occupational news, apparently hard work pays off. I got a job offer at an organic cafe last night. It felt real good to find out that sometimes you don't just get used for working concienciously and efficiently. I'm starting to think that the country club thing is about as much as I can take and I'm fairly certain that if a position opened up there I wouldn't be offered it anyway as a result of needs which is straight up fucking bullshit, but that's the way the world is sometimes and that world can stay in sub-suburbia with its fucking driving ranges and monkeys wearing short pants who'd rather eat a burger and fries than a fresh made pasta with a made to order sauce or whatever.....who am I to argue with the eating habits of bloody suv wielders.

So, today I'm off of work entirely and I've just kicked through my long forgotten Oranger cd (highly recommended) - the cd was inside my clock radio and woke me up the other morning because I had the switch moved to cd instead of alarm; I'm just glad I didn't have the volume turned all the way down 'cause this fool wouldn't have woke up for shit otherwise or not....this morning my eyes opened to the new day at like seven and then I drank coffee, washed the feeks off my body (long story), and drank some of the beautiful french pressed shade grown organic sludge I've been getting so accustomed to and made my way to the coffee shop to type and internet, alas I still don't have my home internet connection hooked up and feel guilty scamming it off various unsecured weefee networks in the area, albeit with a shitty connection from my home. Right now I've got Bright Eyes blaring in my headphones . Later today I think I'm going shopping I'm going to get a chair from IKEA and some new brown shoes.

Songs on the Radio

What's it mean when the only song on the radio that rings true is "Let it be" by the Beatles.....oh yeah, and personally, I perfer the one that they did on sesame street better anyway, but that's neither here nor there. So last night at work one of my coworkers put the soft hits station on the radio and I heard both Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith; brought me back to some strange days - that's fo sho. over.

Over the last couple of weeks I've acquired a couple of new vices. The first is San Pellegrino Limonata - may the lord have mercy on my poor decrepit soul. Sour, bubbly and citrusy sweet, bloody ambrosia that's what it is. The second is alone time in my new apartment in the mornings that I'm not working. It's real just to hang out and enjoy the world I've built around myself. Oh yeah, these things don't coincide. In other vice news I've been drinking more and smoking less, although I think I may drink less again for a while now that summer festivities are all over as far as my eyes can see at least.

Anyway, it's about time for me to take back the pair of cooking shoes that I bought a week ago they're dangerous slippery in a commercial kitchen setting so fyi don't go and get yourself a pair of Santia by Emeril anytime soon 'cause you might as well wear ice skates around the kitchen - there I said it - BLAH!
